In accordance with the decision of the British Ministry of Defence, the British Armed Forces will be vacating their Osnabrueck locations between mid-2008 and mid-2009. The base facilities in the municipality of Osnabrueck will then become the property of the Federal Republic of Germany. A total of 165 hectares (407.55 acres) will become available for new uses. Furthermore, approximately 1,250 residential units previously used by the British Armed Forces will be released. Map 1 provides an overview of the locations of the military bases.

The British military bases as well as the residential units used by the families of the Armed Forces members will be managed by the Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (German Federal Institute for Real Estate Management) and put onto the market at an appropriate time.
