Most of the residential properties used by the British Armed Forces are located in the Sonnenhuegel and Dodesheide districts in the northeastern section of Osnabrueck. In addition, the 70-hectare (173 acres) area of the Mercer and Imphal Barracks is located directly on the Vehrter Landstrasse on the way to to Belm. This area in particular will benefit from the planned extension of the Federal Motorway 33 to Federal Motorway 1 near Wallenhorst. A further 5.7 hectares (14 acres) are currently still in use by the British Derby School located in Haster Weg.
